Don Foster

Don Foster, Bath MP and Shadow Cultural Minister for the Liberal Democrats, visits The Mission Theatre

03 / 2008

Don spent over an hour touring the Theatre and enjoying coffee and a snack in The Bistro Upstairs where he met Mel Abba and complimented her, and caterer Viv Rogers (Ramscombe Kitchen Foods), on the delicious food on offer.

He was shown pictures of the building as it was just over 3 years ago, and was amazed and delighted by the subsequent transformation. Ann Garner (Artistic Director) and Andrew Ellison (Director) answered his questions on current audience numbers, the range of users, the improvements Next Stage had made to the building, the costs incurred and grants received. He was impressed at the range of activities for which The Mission is used and the work of Next Stage volunteers in keeping it running. Don offered practical advice and support, and plans to come to a production in the near future.

Don's visit was most welcome and everyone at the theatre felt that he really appreciated the work that volunteers and supporters have put into The Mission and that he recognised how much the cultural and community life of the city had been enriched by the creation of this attractive, intimate, city-centre performing arts space.
