Next Stage Youth win at the Mid-Somerset Drama Festival

03 / 2009

Members of Next Stage Youth had been rehearsing since Christmas for the Mid-Somerset Drama Competition, which took place in various locations in Bath, March 18th - 20th. The classes we had entered were Group Acting Under 12, 15 and 19 years, and Duo Acting Under 12 Years. All the dramatic pieces were challenging with scenes from The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark, Teechers by John Godber, The Witches by Roald Dahl and Invisible Friends by Alan Ayckbourn.

In the face of strong competition all the young actors did well with most marks in the top 80's. Groups were awarded Merit, Commended and Distinction certificates. We won 2 classes, the Under 15 Group Acting with Teechers and the Under 19 Group Acting with The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, and came second in the Duo-acting.

The Mission Theatre was packed on Sunday 22nd March when families and friends came to the Youth Showcase where all competitors performed their pieces. Congratulations to all for such high-calibre work and such a professional approach to rehearsal and performance disciplines.
