Bath Comedy Festival at The Mission

04 / 2010

The start of our Summer season at The Mission coincided with the launch of the second Bath Comedy Festival. Kicking off the festivities here was After Dark from Lancaster, teaching the bravest and most aware among us "How To Survive A Zombie Apocalypse". This bizarre seminar-style improvisation taught the audience all they would need to survive the inevitable apocalypse, from how to recognise a zombie through to transportation through an undead-infested world. The audience themselves got into the swing of things, with one night seeing around 20 zombies lurch into the theatre, on a social from the Hobgoblin pub!

Next up here at The Mission was Women on the Make. This self-confessed band of crabby middle-aged ladies delighted full houses with their new sketch show, "Let Them Eat Cake!". We started in 1665 in the midst of the plague epidemic, where an apothecary's assistants found themselves with more trouble than they'd bargained for after the apothecary himself succumbed to the plague. After dealing with the matter the old-fashioned way (poisoning all and sundry), they fast forwarded to 19th Century France and the designing studio of Marie Antoinette's gowns in the midst of the Revolution. Finally we reached 1940s Britain and Hut 8 at Bletchley Park, where three "gels" from very different backgrounds put in their best for the war effort but the lure of gin wreaked havoc before the PM's visit. A great evening's entertainment, and we do hope that Women on the Make will return to The Mission soon.

Finally, we are very excited to welcome back The Noise Next Door with their hilarious stand of improvised comedy. Last year we were completely dazzled by their razor-sharp improvisations, including physical comedy, standup and even music, and have high hopes for this season's show: "Chaos Control". This is not a show to miss so get your tickets either at Bath Festivals Box Office, or on the door, and enjoy your last laugh of the Comedy Festival here with us.
