Bath Chronicle Launch Article:

A cocktail of delicious productions is planned for the new autumn season at Bath's Mission Theatre opening with John Godber and Jane Thornton's tasty play Shakers Re-Stirred.

After the summer break Next Stage kicks off by dipping into the trendy night life at a cocktail bar where everyone who is anyone wants to be seen. The play is a sparklingly funny, sensitive and insightful slice of life typical of the work of John and Jane all brought to life by four talented young local actors.

Visiting theatre company Fragile Productions then takes us back to the time of Charles II's reign when for the first time in English history women were allowed to perform on stage. The script reflects the bawdy humour and harsh realities of 17th century life.

The theatre once again takes part in both the Jane Austen Festival and the Bath Festival of Children's Literature with lots of shows and events to keep both the young and the not so young amused.

The seasonal Theatre Supper production this year is The Gin Game with Lesley Langley and Dave Dunn. Watch the play and have a tasty vegetarian supper.

That is followed by some mind boggling magic with Ian Keable who creates as many laughs as he does tricks.

Next Stage Youth get centre stage with Willy Russell's Blood Brothers about twin brothers who are separated at birth.

Platform 8 with a reputation for doing great productions perform The Elephant Man about a freak show attraction in Victorian England.

The main Next Stage company then turn to Tom Stoppard and The Real Thing in which an ageing writer wishes that real life could be scripted as neatly as one of his on stage dramas.

Bath Gilbert and Sullivan Society turns temporarily away from the two great men to look at Franz Lehar and his tuneful operetta The Merry Widow. Masses of fabulous songs and deliciously merry music.

In early December Next Stage Youth perform Alan Bennett's adaptation of The Wind In The Willows.

Looking to the new year Next Stage will be performing Jez Butterworth's smash hit Jerusalem.

If you are a youngster thinking of getting involved in theatre don't miss the Next Stage Youth autumn term enrolment on Sunday, September 11.
