The Autumn Season at The Mission Theatre is now underway, with a delightful and exciting range of events to cater for all artistic tastes. Of particular interest this season is the number of activities available to youngsters at The Mission Theatre. September has already seen two casts from Next Stage Youth perform two highly successful versions of “Living With Lady Macbeth”, which was hailed by audiences and critics alike. A number of the group will also be appearing with the adult company in “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie”, showing from 27th to 31st October. Enrolment into Next Stage Youth for the autumn term will occur on Sunday 27th September at 5pm, and anyone from 11 to 18 who wants to join this vibrant, friendly group should come along to The Mission and meet the youngsters and tutors. For more details, please see here. The Mission is also the venue for a brand-new youth choir, Vibrant Voices. The group meets on Tuesdays from 4-6 in The Bistro Upstairs, and aims to develop musical and performance skills for 8 to 18 year olds – as well as having a lot of fun! WildThymeMusic is bringing a wide variety of musical concerts to The Mission: acoustic from Gordon Giltrap (17th September), pop and jazz with the Churchfitters (27th September) and award winning folk music from Nancy Kerr, James Fagan and Robert Harbron (16th September), and Blackheart (1st November). WildThyme are also promoting a festive concert from Johnny Coppin, Paul Burgess and Paul Dolan on 12th December at 7.30pm, after an ever-popular Railway Film Show at 2pm.
From 18th to 27th September, the Daily Telegraph Bath Festival of Children’s Literature celebrates its third year, and once again The Mission is hosting some great workshops, readings and interactive shows at the weekends. From babies to teens, Peter Rabbit to The Stig, there’s sure to be something for everyone!
Next Stage, the resident Theatre Company at The Mission, is presenting three shows in the Autumn season. Up first is “Champagne Cabaret”, October 1st – 3rd – a theatre supper to celebrate the company’s 15th Birthday. Sit back with a glass of bubbly and a delicious meal, and enjoy an evening of entertainment from some of Next Stage’s most talented performers. Then the adult and Youth companies work together to present “The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie” from 27th – 31st October. This compelling tale of a teacher and her girls, the “crème de la crème”, has an outstanding cast and is should not be missed. Finally the company present J.B.Priestley’s classic, “An Inspector Calls”, from 1st to 5th December.
The season also sees music from the Cappuccinos, the Amazing Street Cred Band, Darren Dutson-Bromley, Stentorphon Opera and the Bath Gilbert and Sullivan Society, and drama from AsOne Theatre Company, Pomegranate, Beaufort Productions and regular performers Platform 8 – please don’t miss out!
