Sunday Special: Crime and Criminal Portraits

10 / 2009

Back by popular demand, Bath-based historian Graham Davis presented a fascinating illustrated talk in the Theatre Upstairs on Sunday 11th October examining the records of Victorian criminals and showing how Victorians attempted to identify criminals by their facial characteristics. After the break Next Stage actors, Andrew Ellison, Alison Paine and Nicky Wilkins presented a rehearsed play reading of "False Pretences", a script written by Graham. The story was based on a real-life con-man who preyed on rich widows in Bath at the end of the nineteenth century. The evening finished with a Q&A session in which Graham, the actors, and director Ann Garner engaged in lively debate with the audience.
