4th Bath Festival of Children's Literature

10 / 2010

The fourth Bath Festival of Children’s Literature opened on Sept 24th 2010. Over the first weekend we were delighted to welcome back to The Mission some old favourites and also some brand new visitors. As always, the versatility of the Main Auditorium meant that a great variety of events could be accommodated, from dancing with Spot the Dog to some amazing Lego construction. Peppa Pig was a hit with all and Peter Rabbit paid a visit and delighted a sell out crowd of youngsters and their parents. The Falkland's war veteran, Simon Weston, was a welcome speaker at the Mission and he entertained older children with his stories of Nelson the cart horse. As always the Bistro Upstairs – The Green Room – proved a popular meeting and eating place for the Festival-goers and the delicious cakes and lunches were enjoyed by all.

The second weekend was a real mix of events for all ages. Horrid Henry arrived at the theatre and made both boys and girls laugh whilst the author and illustrator of the popular Dirty Bertie series delighted their young audience with readings and live illustrations. Princess Poppy enchanted the little princesses in her audience, whilst Dinosaur Mania and TimeRiders catered for the older children with talks and aninteractive game show. The final Sunday began with a charming reading of Dear Zoo - complete with hand puppets - then the fairies descended on the theatre for a dancing and craft session with the Rainbow Magic Twilight Fairies. The festival at The Mission concluded with a sold-out and exciting Beast Quest event, hosted by the good wizard Arduro and featuring the Beast itself!
