"How do we know what humanity lies hidden under the rags and filth of a mangled life?"
Australia, 1788. The First Fleet lands at Sydney Cove. Half of those aboard are convicts – murderers, thieves, and prostitutes – exiled to the shores of this strange new land. Eager to impress his superiors, Second Lieutenant Ralph Clark takes up the task of bringing culture to the burgeoning colony by offering to direct the country’s first play. With a cast of criminals, only two copies of the play, and some of his actors facing the noose, the project seems doomed from the start.
Our Country’s Good explores the redemptive power of art, asking if it is better to punish – or to rehabilitate?
Bath Spa Theatre Society returns to The Mission after it's highly-acclaimed production of Punk Rock last year.
This amateur production of Our Country's Good is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD.
