“Love or knowledge: which would you choose?”
After the success of last year’s sold-out The Caucasian Chalk Circle - our Spring 2025 show at The Mission Theatre - Bath University Student Theatre returns with their performance of Blue Stockings, by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.
1896, Girton College, Cambridge; the first college in Britain to admit women. The Girton girls study ferociously and match their male peers grade for grade yet go home empty handed. Tess Moffat and her fellow first years are determined to win the right to graduate. But little do they anticipate the hurdles in their way: the distractions of love, the cruelty of the class divide or the strength of the opposition.
Blue Stockings is a comedic, impactful, and emotional play which follows the girls over the course of a tumultuous academic year, in their fight to change the future of education for girls and women.
A previous review of the play Blue Stockings:
“A fascinating glimpse into a less noble chapter of the university’s history, Blue Stockings is full of fun, fight and fury.”
