Lighthouse keeper’s daughter Ellida is a troubled woman - but why? She’s obsessed by the sea and yearns for the freedom it represents, in contrast to her dull marriage in a remote part of Norway.  By chance she learns of a shipwrecked sailor with whom she had a passionate affair years before. And when this mysterious stranger returns to claim her, she faces a life-changing choice  - between her duty on land or an escape out to sea. David Eldridge’s version of one of Ibsen’s most intriguing plays -  a Bath premiere - is directed by Bob Constantine with a highly experienced Next Stage cast.
