Charles: Tell us all about the ghost, or ghosts
Saul: Very well, although I warns you, it bain’t no pretty tale

Six passengers find themselves stranded late at night in the damp and desolate waiting room of an isolated Cornish railway station. Stuck in the middle of nowhere in the pouring rain with no hope of transport until morning the group listen with fear and incredulity to the ghostly tales and dire warnings told to them by Saul, the Stationmaster. When Saul leaves them the group reluctantly settle down for the night, but then – a thud, the door swings open and a body falls into the waiting room – this is just the start, a night of horror lies in store for the terrified passengers…

Written by Bath playwright Arnold Ridley – possibly best known as Private Godfrey in the BBC classic TV series Dad’s Army – the play has been delighting audiences since its first staging in 1925. Now, Arnold’s son Nicolas Ridley, who also lives in Bath, has revised the play and has been working closely with Next Stage on this sparkling new version of a great comedy thriller.

A talented cast of Next Stage actors bring The Ghost Train to life in the intimate setting of The Mission Theatre. Staged in the round, but with a unique use of the space, the company’s Artistic Director Ann Ellison invites you to this post-Christmas treat. Enter the auditorium via the railway’s platform – if you dare!
